Coach Walt Holmes
Coach Holmes has been at Houston High School since the 1997-98 season. Previously he was the head coach at Kirby High School. At Kirby, he coached 4 state champions, 5 state runners-up and 1 multiple All-American. One of his wrestlers has gone on to win the Armed Forces National Championship. His 1993 team finished 3rd in the dual meet state. Since he has been at Houston, the Mustangs have grown into a respected program. Houston has won the 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2007 regional tournaments and the 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 dual meet regionals. In 2001, the Mustangs placed 4th in the dual meet state and 10th in the individual state tournament. In 2005, Houston placed 10th in the individual state tournament and had its first State Champion, Luke Borneman. At Houston, he has coached 19 state placers with 3 state champions and 4 state finalists. He has also coached 2 All-Americans at Houston. With Houston's victory over Arlington on 11/23/2011, Coach Holmes reached his 300th dual meet victory. In 2009 Walt Holmes was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Coach Drew Fryman
Coach Fryman has been a part of the Houston Wrestling program since 2000-2001. He is a 2004 graduate of Houston. He was a 4 year starter for the Mustangs and was also a 2 time state qualifier. He was also selected to the All Metro team his senior year. He has led the Houston Freshman team to a Runner-up and Championship seasons. Drew has coached 4 state placers and 2 state champions.
